David began playing at the age of thirteen having heard the electric guitar sound of Hank Marvin. Throughout his teenage years he played in local bands inspired by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton.
Later he became interested in the folk and classical guitar and was inspired by Segovia, John Williams, Julian Bream, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and Gordon Giltrap.
David studied under Simon Munting at the Spanish Guitar Centre in London and received further tuition from Oliver Hunt, professor of guitar at The London College of Music. After four years of intensive study, he was awarded the Associate of The London College of Music Diploma in Guitar Performance.
David also attended Dartington College of Arts as a full time music student, graduating in 1993. During his time at Dartington, he studied steel string guitar under John Renbourn and classical guitar under Stephen Gordon.
